Evacuation advice

Have you ever thought about how you'd get out of your flat in an emergency?

Every second counts in that kind of situation, and planning your escape route now will save you valuable time in an emergency.

Preparation is key

  • Plan your escape route and practice with everyone in your home
  • Keep your mobile phone close by in case you need to call 999
  • Make sure everyone knows where door and window keys are kept

Your flat is built to protect from fire for 60 minutes. If there's a fire and you can't get out:

  • Get everyone into one room
  • Close the door and put bedding, towels or other materials across the bottom of it to help stop smoke coming in
  • Call 999 and ask for the fire service

You should not:

  • Try to find the source of the fire, or fight it yourself
  • Use any lifts in the building
  • Go back into the building once you've left, until you’re told it's safe to do so.
