Residents of recently completed new build affordable homes at Eastglade in Top Valley came together with nearby neighbours this week to celebrate the completion of the works and the launch of their new community.
As well as enjoying live music, a bouncy castle and inflatables for the children, residents met new neighbours and representatives from the local area.
Eastglade has 106 new council homes - 23 one-bed flats, 63 two-bed houses and 20 three-beds – and is built on the site of the former Eastglade School, which was closed in July 2007 and demolished soon after. The development is one of the biggest council housing projects in the city in recent years and takes the number of council homes built under the Building a Better Nottingham initiative to almost 1,000.
Construction first started back in early 2021, but works were delayed when the original contractor appointed to the build ceased to trade in late 2022. The council appointed housing specialists Lovell Partnerships to complete the works, and the site reopened in June 2023, with the first homes let to local people in housing need during the autumn of the same year. The homes were designed by Nottingham-based Pelham Architects.
Cllr Jay Hayes, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “These new homes are high quality, warm, energy efficient and safe as well as being affordable. We always want to build communities where people are proud to live, and Eastglade is evidence of our ability to collaborate effectively with partners and contractors to deliver exactly that.
Mike Price, Head Architect from Pelhams, said, “This project is testament to our continuing highly successful collaboration with Nottingham City Council, and is the latest in a number of projects between Pelham and Lovell Partnerships.
"It’s great to see residents come together and enjoy this cohesively designed development.”
Mark Roe, partnerships director at Lovell in the East Midlands, said: “The most rewarding part of our work is seeing people move into their new homes and witnessing vibrant communities take shape around the developments we create.
“As families settle into Eastglade, this new community in Top Valley can thrive supported by high-quality, energy-efficient homes that lay the foundation for
long-term growth. For us, it’s never just about building houses; it’s about making a lasting, positive impact.
Resident Anna, who moved into Eastglade recently, said, “I love my new place, we’ve settled in already. It’s a nice area and I’m looking forward to making my house a home and getting to know the neighbours.”
