Fire safety exercise at city high-rise

Published: Tuesday, 24 March 2026

Residents of the 14-storey Bentinck Court high-rise in the city centre have been advised that if they see fire engines outside the block on Thursday (26 March) they shouldn’t be alarmed – Nottingham City Council (NCC) and Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) are joining forces to deliver fire safety training to existing and new firefighters.

The training will involve a live person and a dummy being taken from the lift motor room, and the live person being given first aid on the 13th floor.

On the day, there’ll be fire engines in attendance, although if NFRS get a call out to attend a live fire incident on the day, the training will be rescheduled.

Leigh Curtis, NFRS Watch Manager, said, “Regular training in real-life environments is essential to ensure we have the skills and confidence to respond swiftly and safely when incidents occur across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. We’d like to thank the residents of Bentinck Court for their cooperation, which helps us continue improving the service we provide to our communities.”

Cllr Jay Hayes, Nottingham City Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Planning, said, “The safety of our residents is always our top priority, and exercises like this are a vital part of making sure our emergency services are fully prepared. We’re grateful to residents at Bentinck Court for their understanding while this training takes place. By working closely with Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service, we’re ensuring firefighters can train in a real high-rise setting so they can respond quickly and effectively should the need ever arise.”
